With over 35 majors and minor areas of concentration, Elmira College lays the foundation for a diverse, cross discipline education, encouraging you to both specialize and explore.
According to the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings released today, Elmira College is performing well compared with peer institutions.
In standout achievements, Elmira ranked #6 in Regional Colleges North, #3 for Best Value, and #2 for Social Mobility. These recognitions indicate that EC has the right combination of academic programs, faculty expertise, and student support systems.
With these in place, the College is able to attract, retain, and launch students into successful careers.
“We are a school driven by our Mission, so it is exciting to get recognized for our efforts to provide students a great experience where they can grow and thrive,” said Dr. Charles Lindsay, Elmira College President. “Here, students and faculty get to know each other, students have many leadership opportunities, and our Center for Academic and Professional Excellence provides support services even after our students graduate.”
U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 1,700 U.S. colleges and universities against 17 factors. The news organization places heavy emphasis on a college’s academic reputation and graduation and retention rates. Other weighted metrics include the average class size, the student-faculty ratio, and the percentage of faculty with the top degree in their field.
Behind these numbers is the tight-knit community EC is known for. Elmira College boasts an average class size of 14 with an 11-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio. Students and alumni frequently share stories about how their professors care about them as individuals and have connected them with internship and job opportunities.
Also driving EC’s success in the rankings is the College’s focus on affordability for students from lower-income families while adding professionally focused academic programs in high-growth career fields. For example, the College recently added majors and minors in Social Work, Cybersecurity, Forensic Science, Data Analytics, Politics & Society, and Public Health, as well as new Business Administration concentrations and minors like Digital Marketing, Esports Gaming and Administration, Fashion Business Generalist, and Sports Management.
This approach helps students minimize debt while preparing them for high-paying roles soon after they graduate.
“At EC, we are committed to putting students first, engaging them, and inviting them to become part of a vibrant community,” said Lindsay. “We’re excited to keep pushing the boundaries of academic excellence and developing innovative programs that help our students find their place in the world.”
