U.S. News & World Report released its Best Colleges rankings today and Elmira College continues to perform well compared with peer institutions. EC secured its spot among the top schools in key areas like professor accessibility, graduation and retention rates, community impact, and student success. In standout achievements, Elmira ranked #8 in Regional Colleges North, #3 for Best Value, and #7 for Social Mobility.
The U.S. News & World Report metrics, which heavily weigh graduation and retention rates, indicate that EC students choose to stay, perform well, and successfully earn their degrees.
“Elmira College offers students a quality education in an intimate setting where they can thrive and be celebrated,” said Dr. Charles Lindsay, Elmira College President. “Here, students and faculty get to know each other, students have many leadership opportunities, and our Center for Academic and Professional Excellence provides support services even after our students graduate.”
U.S. News & World Report also heavily weighs the academic reputation of a college’s undergraduate programs. This is based on a peer assessment survey sent to presidents, provosts, and deans of admissions who rate the academic quality of institutions they are familiar with.
In the past few years, EC developed professional-focused programs, such as Social Work, Cybersecurity, Forensic Science, Data Analytics, professionally-focused Art concentrations; a Media Studies, Communications, and Design major; and new Business Administration concentrations like Digital Marketing, Esports Gaming and Administration, and the Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Business School with the newly added Fashion Business Generalist concentration and minor.
Other weighted metrics include the average class size, the student-faculty ratio, and the percentage of faculty who have the highest degree in their field. Elmira College boasts an average class size of 14 with a 9-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio. EC students and alumni continually share the value of the close relationship they build with their professors.
“This recognition highlights our unwavering commitment to a student-centered education, where students truly engage and become part of a vibrant community,” said Lindsay. “We’re excited to keep pushing the boundaries of academic excellence and developing innovative programs that help our students find their place in the world.”
