Educators inspire us and provide us with the foundation for lifelong success. They empower us to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. They challenge us to achieve our greatest potential.

The career opportunities for graduates of Elmira College’s Education program are incredibly rewarding and can complement a variety of interests. Do you have a passion for writing and literature? Become an English teacher. Do you have an interest in the physical and chemical processes that make up our world? Teach science. Do you want to help children with disabilities? Your calling could be special education. Talented musicians and artists are also needed to inspire younger generations and round out their education.

While many teachers enjoy long careers in the classroom, others advance into positions of leadership, whether it’s overseeing school curriculum and teaching standards as an instructional coordinator, managing the operations of a school building as its principal, or overseeing an entire school district as superintendent.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for educators and related professions, such as museum curators and librarians, was $57,220 as of 2021, which is more than $10,000 above the average.
