Why Should I Choose Animal Science?

If you are planning to apply to Veterinary schools or a related graduate program, this minor will set you apart in this competitive field. In addition to gaining a strong science background, you’ll demonstrate to graduate programs that you are serious about pursuing a career related to animal science, conservation, and welfare. What’s more, you can pair this minor with our Pre-Veterinary Science program to further prepare you for a graduate program.

What Will I Learn Through Animal Science?

You’ll learn the basics of animal biology, diversity, physiology, behavior, and health. This will provide a strong background that is relevant to careers in veterinary medicine, animal production, animal welfare, and animal conservation. This program will pair your core courses in Biology and Chemistry with animal-specific courses in anatomy, behavior, and nutrition. You can also pair this minor with additional majors, including Biochemistry and Environmental Science.

What Can I Do With An Animal Science Minor?

This program will help set you on a course to join a profession that is currently in need. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, between 2024-2034, the need for veterinary technicians is expected to increase by 9%, veterinarians by 10%, and animal caretakers by 11%. This demand outpaces demand in other fields.
