Theatre at Elmira College provides you with an academic and professional foundation critical for achievement and success in the field.
Our program enables you to experience every aspect of theatre – costume, set, sound, lighting design; stage management, marketing, acting, and directing. Small classes mean we can give you the individual attention that will prepare you for a wide range of careers or further study. Our unique Term III offers the opportunity to experience the "real world," fast-paced environment of theatre production. This intensive collaboration between faculty and students provides an unforgettable immersion in theatre.
Theatre at Elmira College provides you with an academic and professional foundation critical for achievement and success in the field. The Theatre curriculum is designed to immerse you in the knowledge as well as the practice of theatre. EC theatre offers you a range of courses in both technical theatre and performance as well as frequent production in our two theatre spaces – Watson Arena, a flexible black box space, and Gibson theatre, our 400-seat proscenium theatre.
Recent theatre graduates are working as a Production Tour Manager and in merchandise for national tours, as a Business Representative and Contract Associate at Actors Equity, as well as Production Stage Manager and Company Managers in regional theatre. Graduates also perform extra work on various TV and film productions, are cast members at Disney, and are working actors in New York City and Los Angeles. In addition, theatre students have found work in education, arts administration, business, law, and many other fields.
Students who have completed the requirements will exercise aesthetic judgment; think critically; work collaboratively; synthesize principles in the process of production; engage in creative expression; develop personal discipline; and foster respect for one's self, colleagues, audience, and community.
There are several career opportunities to the successful Theatre program graduate.
Theatre students have opportunities to become part of the Alpha Psi Omega honor society and can apply for two theatre scholarships.
