Experiential learning is a cornerstone of the Business Administration program at Elmira College, which has earned a national reputation.

Specific Coursework Areas

  • Field trips to major manufacturing, retail, sports and entertainment operations, in the Southern Tier and in major cities such as New York. Past student experiences have ranged from a personal behind-the-scenes tour of Hilfiger operations from a family member to the inner workings of a major-league sports arena, and much more.
  • Guest lectures by corporate leaders and executives from all walks of industry, throughout the Northeastern US.
  • Student consulting projects with real world organizations including The Hilliard Corporation, Chemung ARC: Southern Tier Industries, Habitat for Humanity, Mount Savior Monastery, Guthrie HealthWorks, The Clemens Center, Iron Flamingo Brewery, and the City of Elmira.
 

Honor Societies

Sigma Beta Delta

Sigma Beta Delta membership provides recognition for a lifetime. Because the Society is recognized for honoring scholastic excellence in business, it is appropriate to include Sigma Beta Delta membership on one’s resume. Employers throughout the country will recognize your academic achievements.

Requirements: 3.6 GPA, leadership activities, and 60+ credits completed at Elmira College

 

Scholarships

Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Business School students can apply for a $4,000 award after completing their second year in the program thanks to Elmira native Tommy Hilfiger and his siblings Andy. Hilfiger and Betsy Hilfiger. The money is to be used towards internship needs or accommodations necessary for an internship in Fashion Marketing or Fashion Merchandising during the student's final year of the program and will be added to any existing scholarships or awards up to the total tuition costs. To apply, students in the THFBS program must have at least a 3.25-grade point average, demonstrate a strong desire to succeed in a diverse and inclusive industry, and exhibit leadership qualities, including involvement on committees and/or volunteering in the local community.

Business Administration students have regular opportunities to study abroad, ranging from Elmira College travel courses to partnerships with overseas institutions. Recent courses include Globalization and Change in Southeast Asia, Natural and Social History of Eastern Australia, and a business and cultural tour of the UK and Ireland.

Graduates in Business Administration are well prepared for a variety of careers in business or for specialized graduate study in the business field. Students interested in pursuing an MBA may do so through one of Elmira College's 4+1 MBA programs with Alfred University, Clarkson University, RIT, Union College and State University of New York at Buffalo, providing the opportunity to earn an MBA in one additional year beyond the baccalaureate degree. Furthermore, we offer student information and opportunities with 4+2 MBA programs with University of Rochester, Syracuse University, and Binghamton University.
