Elmira College is a private liberal arts College located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Seeking innovative professionals from diverse backgrounds to fill the position of Assistant Director to join the Financial Aid team.

The Assistant Director is an integral part of the Enrollment Management Team for which they counsel students and families regarding the financial aid process, costs, aid availability, payment options and the features and benefits of Elmira College.

The Assistant Director is responsible for administering Federal Student Aid Programs, as well as State and Institutional Aid for the purpose of enrollment and retention of students.

The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2024.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Import and Export federal processing files (FAFSA, Pell, Direct Loan, TEACH);
  • Oversee the verification of aid applications;
  • Oversee the administration of Federal Pell and state grants, Federal Direct Loans and Private educational loans;
  • Assist the Director with pre-packaging prospective students and packaging current student financial aid awards;
  • Monitor Federal Work Study dollars to ensure student eligibility;
  • Review special condition requests and appeals;
  • Adjust financial aid according to Federal and College regulations;
  • Resource for Part-Time and Graduate financial aid;
  • Assist the Director with federal and institutional reporting;
  • Liaison with Department of Education and COD regarding software support, Direct Loan and federal grant technical processing;
  • Balance Federal Funds monthly (Direct Loan, Pell, TEACH, Federal Work Study);
  • Prepare FAFSA files for award packaging (missing information communication with families);
  • Import and Export data between PFAIDS, Slate and J1;
  • Batch financial aid disbursements to submit to Business Office.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above duties;
  • Customer service experience - ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
  • Computer skills – Microsoft Word & Excel, E-mail; familiar with financial aid and student information software;
  • Basic knowledge of math, necessary to calculate students cost of attendance and financial aid awards;
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality;
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and monitor own work to ensure quality;
  • Possess strong organizational skills, the ability to pay attention to detail, and the ability to work with frequent interruptions and multi-task;
  • Ability to work as a productive team player as well as independently with minimal supervision;
  • Cannot be in student loan default;
  • Knowledge of PowerFAIDS, Slate and JenzebarOne software preferred.

WORK LOCATION: Elmira, NY – NOT Remote

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with frequent public contact and interruptions. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to sit for prolonged periods of time; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
