At Elmira College, our small class sizes and campus community provide you individual attention and support to help you broaden your understanding of the world and develop the critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills you need to enter the workforce and succeed as an actuarial professional. Our Actuarial and Financial Science degree program joins the fields of mathematics, statistics, and finance, and equips you with the ability to analyze data and assess risk.
What you’ll learn are high-demand skills that position you for a versatile set of career paths ideal for anyone who loves to solve problems and puzzle out complex information. As part of the Actuarial and Financial Science degree requirements, we prepare you for two of the challenging Society of Actuaries (SOA) preliminary examinations and three SOA Validation by Educational Experience areas.
A degree in Actuarial and Financial Science provides you with skills in problem solving, data analysis, and risk assessment. Our program prepares you for a career as an actuary, budget analyst, cost estimator, financial analyst, or insurance underwriter.
Students who successfully complete this program will be able to use technology to evaluate financial markets, investments, and institutions; along with many other skills.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, an entry-level position in the field of actuarial science typically requires only a bachelor’s degree and actuaries earn a median salary of $100K per year.
