Admissions
Looking for a small, close-knit campus filled with incredible, hands-on learning opportunities? Our Admissions Office can help make Elmira College YOUR place.
Students attending SUNY Corning Community College (CCC) interested in Theatre now have even more opportunities to expand their knowledge through classes at Elmira College.
That’s because the two colleges recently expanded a cross-registration agreement, allowing CCC students to enroll in Theatre courses offered at EC that aren’t currently available at CCC. This will help students at the community college meet their requirements for an associate's degree, particularly in the area of technical theatre instruction.
“This agreement solidifies the already strong relationship between the two Theatre programs,” explained Sarah K. Chalmers, EC Lecturer of Applied Theatre and Director of the Theatre program. “We’re excited to welcome CCC students to EC Theatre classes who will bring their experiences and enliven discussions.”
Ultimately, this expanded agreement reflects a practical commitment to student opportunity. By making it easier and more affordable for students to access specialized Theatre coursework, the two colleges are strengthening both programs while creating a clearer pathway from associate to bachelor’s degrees.
"The two most significant aspects of this partnership are the deeper institutional and interpersonal connections we’re building between the two Theatre departments, and the greater opportunities that those connections will create,” shared Michael Hurd, Theatre Studies Coordinator, History & Government Adjunct Instructor, and Muse of Fire Theatre club advisor at SUNY Corning Community College.
“As we move forward, I imagine more students from each program attending more shows, supporting each other's works, and potentially coming together when Theatre Studies students at SUNY CCC earn Associate's degrees and then move on to seek a Bachelor's degree from EC. Theatre groups must work together to survive and thrive, and I am proud to have been a part of helping to make this happen for our SUNY CCC and EC students,” added Hurd.
The enhanced agreement provides a step-by-step process to make enrolling in EC courses easier. What’s more, CCC students will pay the same per credit at EC as they do at CCC. And, since the students will be enrolled at both CCC and EC, they’ll have access to the facilities and services at EC, including access to the dining hall, academic support, and lounge areas.
