#SoaringToSuccess: Deanna Hathway ’25

Deanna Hathway ’25 stands on the far right as she and other interns present to Enterprise Mobility leaders.

When the upstate New York branches of Enterprise Mobility, which owns Enterprise Rent-A-Car and other related brands, held an intern competition, Elmira College student, Deanna Hathway ’25, and her teammates went “all in.” The goal was to find creative ways to make the company more mobile. Hathway’s team developed a website that housed how-to videos for different car models. Renters could scan a QR code that took them to the guides for the car they were renting and get quick vehicle information, like how to work the temperature controls or set up the cruise control.

Hathway’s team didn’t win, sadly, but the Business Administration and Legal Studies double major remains undaunted. She enjoyed her experience as a Management Trainee Intern.

“The Enterprise managers were super welcoming and helped whenever I and my co-intern had questions,” she said. “I learned customer service skills. The entire company revolves around customer service - it’s their way of life!”

Daily, Hathway worked with customers at her Syracuse-based branch office. She learned phone etiquette and how to pre-empt frequently asked questions. At the same time, Hathway attended in-person trainings where company speakers taught about the company’s core competencies: risk management, sales, and fleet management.

“The training sessions taught us how to develop our skills and do things correctly. They broadened our horizons beyond the rental car branch,” explained Hathway. “The risk management speakers were interesting because the things that they deal with align with my interest in legal studies.”

Overall, the internship supported Hathway’s concentration in Management as part of her Business Administration major. It gave her hands-on experiences that will prepare her to achieve her career goals. As a bonus, she got to drive a lot of cars.

“I love cars,” she shared.

However, the rental car business isn’t in Hathway’s longer-term career horizons.

“Ideally, what I would like to do is become an agent or manager in sports or entertainment,” she shared. “I’d eventually like to become a freelance agent and then, ultimately, start my own talent/sports management company. I used to watch a lot of sports documentaries when I was younger and saw athletes sign huge deals. I said to myself, ‘I want to help them sign those type of deals.’”

Meanwhile, Hathway has noticed how she is using skills from her internship at Elmira College. She’s communicating more effectively in and out of class and applies improved problem-solving skills daily.
