During a formal reception on May 11, the Elmira College President's Council announced alumnus J. Kelsey Jones ’80 as this year's recipient of the President's Council Award. They also presented Holley Riva ’23 with the 2023 Stand Energy Prize Award.
The President’s Council Award recognizes outstanding Elmira College graduates who have distinguished themselves and the College by exemplary service in the College's greater community, and who, by giving generously of their time and talent, have improved the quality of the community.

He joined the Mayflower Society the year he graduated and went on to join the Huguenot Society of America and The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution in 1985. He has lectured on various historical topics and written many articles for publications, including Loyalist Plantations on the Susquehanna, Exploring the Wysocton Capture, and most recently Catharine, The Legend, The Legacy, Life Before the Sullivan and Clinton Expedition.
He serves as County Historian for the Chemung County Historical Society and Chemung Valley Museum in Elmira, New York, and lends his expertise to many museums and historical society boards. Also during the ceremony, Stand Energy Executive Vice President Larry Freeman and the President’s Council formally presented Holley Riva ’23 with the 2023 Stand Energy Prize. The award was previously announced during the Stand Energy Prize Recognition luncheon honoring interns.
The Prize was established through a generous endowment funded by the Stand Energy Corporation. Each year a monetary prize is awarded to an outstanding Elmira College intern. Students are nominated by their supervisors and selected by the Council’s Business Relations Committee. These students are recognized for working independently while maintaining a team attitude and applying their academic preparation to a real-world work environment.
Riva is an Education major from Lakeville, Connecticut. She has been a member of the Women’s Ice Hockey team for all four years at EC and will be returning this fall for her Master’s in Education. She was nominated for the award by her supervisor, Kathleen Stewart, Director of the Kildonan Teacher Training Institute. Riva refers to Camp Dunnabeck as a place and experience that is “life-changing.”
