Kyle Gilbert

VP of Finance and Administration

Originally from Clyde, New York, Kyle Gilbert has more than 15 years of experience working in finance and accounting. A majority of that time has been spent working in higher education, which includes positions as accounting manager and director of finance at Hellenic College Holy Cross, and comptroller at Elmira College.  

Gilbert earned his bachelor’s in business administration, marketing at Alfred University and his MBA at the University of Rochester – Simon Business School.  

As VP of finance and administration, Gilbert leads the Accounting and Finance, Information Technology, and Facilities departments. He manages the annual budget process, cash flow planning, short and long range financial planning, and advises the Senior Team on financial matters, facilities, and information technology.

Paula Lee Hobson

VP of Advancement and Alumni Engagement

Paula Lee Hobson, a native of Coquille, Oregon, brings a wealth of fundraising success to Elmira College.

Hobson most recently served as the vice president for college advancement at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York and helped to launch Hartwick’s current $55 million fundraising campaign. She completed two additional fundraising campaigns at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire and at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nevada. These fundraising campaigns raised $31.1 and $25 million, respectively, and set records for the institutions.

A first-generation college graduate, Hobson earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Oregon and her master’s degree from the University of Nevada in journalism.

Dr. Patricia Ireland

Provost

Dr. Patricia Ireland is originally from northern New Jersey. She has experience in traditional and remote learning and has held teaching and administrative positions as dean and provost at colleges in New Jersey, New York, Maine, and Pennsylvania, before coming to Elmira College in 2021.

Ireland earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Boston College, a master’s degree from Andover Newton Theological School, and a master’s and PhD from Drew University.

As provost of the College, Ireland is the chief academic officer and oversees faculty and academic programs. She is charged with providing leadership and vision in defining the academic mission and she is also responsible for maintaining a collegial environment that is conducive to scholarly pursuits among faculty and students.

Dr. Elizabeth Lambert

Vice President of Campus Life and Dean of Students

Dr. Elizabeth Lambert was born in Newark, New Jersey and relocated to the Twin Tiers of New York in 1975, graduating from Horseheads High School in 1981. She has over 30 years of experience in higher education, most recently as the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Campus Life at Elmira College. Prior to returning to Elmira College in 2019, Lambert served as the dean of student success and chief retention officer at Keuka College. Lambert also previously served as dean of continuing education and graduate studies at Elmira College and spent 21 years at Corning Community College in various administrative roles.

Lambert earned an associate's degree from Corning Community College, a bachelor's degree in liberal studies from SUNY Excelsior College, and a master's degree in student personnel administration from SUNY Buffalo State College. Lambert also holds a doctorate in executive leadership from St. John Fisher College. Her dissertation research examined the experiences and perceptions of traditional-age male college students that influence persistence beyond the first year in college.

As vice president of campus life and dean of students, Lambert oversees the areas of health and counseling, campus safety, residence life, student conduct, diversity, equity, and inclusion, Title IX compliance, and campus engagement.

Jennifer L. Swain, APR

Vice President of Communications & Marketing

Jen Swain, APR, a native of the Twin Tiers region, earned a bachelor's degree in journalism with a concentration in public relations and a minor in environmental science from the University of Maryland College Park and a master's degree in management from Elmira College. She holds the Accredited in Public Relations (APR) designation from the Universal Accreditation Board and Public Relations Society of America, and is a current board member and past-president of the Public Relations Society of America Finger Lakes Chapter.

Over her 25-year career, Swain has worked extensively within the non-profit, government, and higher education industries with experience in communications, grants administration, multi-agency collaborations, project management, donor relations, and fundraising.

As vice president of communications and marketing, Swain is responsible for marketing, communications, public relations, and branding for the College. The Office works with the President’s Office and other campus leaders to develop and promote authentic communications about people and programs that reflect the mission and that set Elmira College apart from other liberal arts institutions. The Office designs marketing campaigns that engage audiences to recruit top students and foster loyalty by students, alumni, faculty, and staff.

W. Eric Sykes

Vice President of Enrollment Management

W. Eric Sykes comes with extensive experience working for colleges and universities. He started as a psychology professor at Indiana University and then at Dickinson College before moving into staff roles. Pairing his love for research, data collection, and analysis, he became the assistant director of institutional research at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. From there, he moved into enrollment management positions, using data to make strategic decisions about the college and university programs and recruitment strategies. Most recently, Sykes served as vice president of enrollment management for Quinnipiac University in Connecticut.

Sykes earned a bachelor's from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois, and a master's degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

As vice president of enrollment management, Sykes leads the Admissions and Financial Aid teams in strategies to attract and enroll prospective students.
