Elmira College is a private liberal arts College located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Elmira College was the first college to offer a comprehensive curriculum for women, and is home of the Center for Mark Twain Studies. We are seeking a Campus Safety Officer II to join the Campus Safety team.

The Campus Safety Officer II (CSO) promotes lawful behavior and protects the welfare of students, faculty, staff and visitors as a uniformed presence on campus. The Campus Safety Officer II will work in partnership with the Director of Campus Safety, and fulfill the duties of the Director in their absence or if the Director is unable to carry out their duties. The Campus Safety Officer II serves as shift lead for all matters during their assigned shift and performs foot and vehicle patrols of campus to monitor behavior, secure buildings and property, investigate disturbances, maintain order during events, and enforce student code of conduct, college policies, and state and local laws. Duties and responsibilities may be assigned to the Campus Safety Officer II as the Director of Campus Safety sees fit.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as the shift lead for Campus Safety operations during their assigned shift, providing direction to other Campus Safety Officer(s) and coordinating responses to incidents and other safety-related matters;
  • Prepared to administer the duties of the Director if that person is absent or unable to carry out responsibilities;
  • Assists the Director as needed for a variety of areas;
  • Enforces the Student Code of Conduct of Elmira College;
  • Assists in training and hiring of Campus Safety personnel;
  • Provides training for faculty and other staff on security related issues;
  • Responds to incidents on campus, determines actions to take, and documents a complete written record of the incidents to meet federal and College reporting requirements. Also provides immediate verbal updates of serious incidents to the Director of Campus Safety and appropriate administration officials as determined by the event;
  • Conducts regular foot and vehicle patrol as well as surveillance for the entire college campus;
  • Mobilizes local law enforcement and/or appropriate community or campus agencies in situations involving campus disturbances and individual physical or mental illnesses which in his/her best judgment cannot be resolved through immediately available college resources;
  • Prevents unauthorized persons from entering the buildings and grounds of the college;
  • Submits a daily officer report that is clear, accurate, and informative, indicating all significant activities and conditions occurring during the tour of duty;
  • Responds to emergency maintenance calls. Contacts appropriate maintenance personnel when necessary;
  • Investigates violations of college regulations, criminal, civil law, and other complaints committed by or against the college;
  • Enforces parking and traffic regulations on campus;
  • Renders first aid.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess a valid NYS Security Guard License;
  • Ability to maintain confidential information;
  • Basic computer skills encompassing Microsoft Office, Jenzabar, Maxient, and others;
  • Familiarity with the Clery Act, Title IX, and other state and federal regulations and reporting requirements;
  • Ability to effectively manage staff and work with others in a positive manner
  • Possess organizational skills;
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to successfully complete DOT check as required by College auto liability insurance;
  • Possess CPR and First Aid certification, or successfully complete once employed;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include nights, weekends, on call, and holidays.

WORK LOCATION: On-site

COMPENSATION: $16.83 per hour

This position is benefit eligible.
