Elmira College is a private liberal arts College located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Seeking innovative professionals from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds to fill the position of Assistant Director of the Center of Academic & Professional Excellence and Manager of Student Success & Accessibility Services to join the open and welcoming Center of Academic & Professional Excellence (CAPE) team.

The Assistant Director is responsible for providing professional academic support to students to help them persist through graduation by overseeing the peer tutor program, including tutor training and scheduling, administering classroom Supplemental Instruction (SI) and training student SI leaders, and managing academic accommodations by reviewing documentation and coordinating services. The Assistant Director will also teach 6 credits per year, normally 3 credits per fall and winter term.

This position has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Administer classroom Supplemental Instruction (SI) and train student SI leaders;
  • Coordinate and oversee The Peer Tutoring Center, including the tutor schedule and tutor hiring and training;
  • Provide outreach to students on financial holds and non-registered students;
  • Create programming based on students' needs and wants in collaboration with the CAPE team;
  • Provide assessment data for tutoring center, SI, and other Student Success programming;
  • Supervise institutional compliance with Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and with other federal and state regulations concerning students with disabilities;
  • Provide orientation support for undergraduate and graduate students receiving accommodations and their families, and provide continued support through scheduled periodic meetings with students;
  • Develop disability awareness curriculum for faculty and staff promoting enhanced disability inclusion, community awareness, and retention for students with disabilities;
  • Act as a liaison, advocate, and resource person for students with disabilities;
  • Facilitate implementation of accommodations for students with temporary disabilities;
  • Schedule the time(s) and location(s) for exams, proctor exams, and ensure back-up proctors as needed under special circumstances, such as when there are simultaneous proctoring sessions and during exam weeks;
  • Coordinate the Leave of Absence, Withdrawal and Return from Leave of Absence process for undergraduate students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in Education or related field;
  • Experience in assisting others with academic skills;
  • Experience teaching at the college level.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with frequent staff, student, faculty contact and interruptions. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, reach, and twist; to carry, push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
