This year, The Princeton Review didn’t just name Elmira College among the nation's best undergraduate colleges; it put EC on the cover.

The annual college search guide used an image of EC’s historic Cowles Hall on a sunny summer day as the cover image for its 2027 print edition of The Best 392 Colleges. The Princeton Review doesn’t rank the colleges against each other in its list, so the prominent image helps EC stand out to readers.

“It was a wonderful surprise,” shared Jennifer L. Swain, Vice President of Communications and Marketing at Elmira. “Many times, opportunities like that are paid advertising options, but only a few minutes before the publication was launched, we received an email from The Princeton Review’s media relations director letting us know that the publisher’s production team had chosen the photo of Elmira College for the cover.”

Rob Franek, lead author of the book and Editor-in-Chief at The Princeton Review, shared in a press release that The Best 392 Colleges guide features about 14% of America’s four-year colleges.

“In our opinion, each one offers an academically outstanding undergraduate education,” he said. “The colleges that make our ranking lists in the book do so entirely as a result of their own students' opinions of them.”

In EC’s online profile are student quotes collected from the annual survey used to help create the “Best Colleges” list. The quotes often reflect how EC’s small size creates an authentic experience. For example, in one quote, a student said that “Elmira College provides a ‘very student-led’ education.”

Another student shared that “people here 'go out of their way to help one another,’ adding, ‘I love the care and support; it is a community that respects one another.’”

A student also highlighted how EC’s classroom learning “is characterized by healthy discussions, creating an environment where ‘your voice can always be heard and your opinion valued.’”

One student said, “I don’t feel like just another number or a nameless student here.”

EC was also featured in The Princeton Review’s "2027 Best Regional Colleges" list, which salutes 630 colleges in seven geographic zones considered academically outstanding and well worth consideration. EC is included in the Northeast region.
