During a formal reception, the Elmira College President's Council announced alumna Kathleen LaMoreaux MS ’79 as this year's recipient of the President's Council Award. They also presented Morgan Vrabel ’26 with the 2026 Stand Energy Prize Award.

President’s Council Award

The President’s Council Award recognizes outstanding Elmira College graduates who have distinguished themselves and the College by exemplary service in the College's greater community, and who, by giving generously of their time and talent, have improved the quality of the community.

LaMoreaux has served as a great mentor to many, and her energy and enthusiasm have made a positive, lasting impact on her students, families, and community.

Now retired, LaMoreaux was an English teacher and swim coach at the

Watkins Glen Central School District. She had high expectations for her swimmers, and they rose to meet her standards as scholars, athletes, and strong role models.

During her long tenure as the Watkins Glen Girls’ Swim Team coach, LaMoreaux amassed an impressive record of victories and state titles. Her dual meet record stood at 231-17-1, with 109 consecutive wins, 9 Interscholastic Athletic Conference titles, 10 Section-IV, Class C titles, and a 7-time #1 ranking for the Class C-D team in New York State.

In addition to her coaching role with WGCSD, LaMoreaux served as the Summer Swim Program Director for 47 years.

Beyond teaching and coaching, LaMoreaux has been a committed community volunteer, actively working with area organizations such as CareFirst, the Office for the Aging Advisory Council, St. James Episcopal Church, Watkins-Montour Lions Club, 4-H, Cub Scouts, and CASA of the Southern Tier. She has also been a program director and instructor for the American Red Cross Summer Swim Program. And, to help fundraise for organizations, LaMoreaux will play her dulcimer at events.

Stand Energy Prize Award

During the ceremony, Stand Energy Executive Vice President Larry Freeman and the President’s Council Business Relations Committee formally presented Vrabel with the 2026 Stand Energy Prize. The Prize was established through a generous endowment funded by the Stand Energy Corporation. Each year, a monetary prize is awarded to an outstanding Elmira College intern. Students are nominated by their supervisors and selected by the Council’s Business Relations Committee. These students are recognized for working independently while maintaining a team attitude and applying their academic preparation to a real-world work environment.

Vrabel is a native of Horseheads, NY, and will soon graduate summa cum laude from EC with her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minor in Finance. Vrabel has received several academic honors, including the Tax Accounting award given by the NYCPA Southern Tier chapter for distinguished achievement in taxation, reflecting top performance in coursework and strong analytical application of tax concepts. She was also inducted into Sigma Beta Delta, the international society for business, management and administration.

Vrabel is wrapping up her internship at Siemens Energy, a global leader in energy technology. In her role, she gained experience in cost analysis, financial documentation, and requisitioning within the accounting and finance team. Following graduation, she will begin a Financial Operations Analyst role with A.W. Chesterton Company in Groveland, Massachusetts.
