The Elmira College Chapter of Iota Iota Iota (or Triota), the National Women's Honor Society, recently held its annual induction ceremony. Triota strives to maintain the feminist values central to Women's and Gender Studies: egalitarianism, inclusiveness, and a celebration of the diversity of women's experiences.
This year's inductees were:
Every year, the Women's Studies Program inducts the top students into the campus chapter of Triota. Qualified students have at least 9 credits of Women's Studies classes, have a record of feminist activism and commitment, and maintain an overall 3.0 grade point average.
Each year, the inductees are entrusted with a feminist mission, and the Triota goddesses Ishtar, Inanna, and Isis “endow” each inductee with the power to be a dedicated foe of evil, defender of the weak, and a champion of truth and justice. The inductees pledge to stand up for feminist values and work for the equality and empowerment of all women.
The featured speaker for the 2026 induction ceremony was Dr. Susan McDaniel Hohenhaus, Associate Professor of Business Administration.
In her keynote address, Hohenhaus challenged the students to actively engage as feminists, advising them to “partner with and hire the right people to help” them succeed.
She then asked them to mentor the next generation in their work. “Who will YOU grow? Which of the vulnerable will you serve and protect? What work will others take up when you move on to your next challenge and chapter?” she asked.
Hohenhaus told the inductees that she looks forward to seeing the results of their efforts in the future.
With their induction, these students take their place among a community of scholars and advocates committed to shaping a more just and equitable world.
