With over 35 majors and minor areas of concentration, Elmira College lays the foundation for a diverse, cross discipline education, encouraging you to both specialize and explore.

Recently, prospective students and their families enjoyed the Elmira College campus just as the trees hit their peak fall colors. While here, they took a deeper look into whether they want to make EC their place for the next three to four years. They toured the campus, spoke to professors and admissions counselors, and heard directly from current students eager to share what they love about being Soaring Eagles.
The event was timed to encourage the prospective students to submit applications before the Early Action deadline runs out on November 15.
“It’s always gratifying to welcome students and families to campus and help them explore what an Elmira College education can mean for them,” shared Patrick Gillette, Director of Admissions.
Part of the benefit of coming to campus is seeing and talking with current students, who are often the College’s best advocates.
And prospective students were given lots of opportunities to do just that.
They asked a panel of students questions and chatted one-on-one with a current student during a campus tour. Students were also on hand while prospective students spoke to faculty and staff during the Academic & Campus Life Fair.
Beyond the student interactions, families were invited to glimpse into the ways EC’s academic departments focus on hands-on learning.

During the Class of ’28 Student Writing Showcase, sophomores stood on the small stage in MacKenzie’s and read passages from essays they wrote in their first year to show off their writing prowess. Attendees then joined in collaborative creative writing games.
In the nearby George Waters Art Gallery, the Art department invited prospective students to sit with current students in a five-minute sketch challenge, in which the students observed at a pop-up still life display and then drew whatever they wanted for five minutes. Their only instruction was to capture gesture, volume, and key aspects of a pose or still life.

"We had fun during the Open House," said Chris Longwell, Associate Professor of Art and Chair of the Arts and Humanities Department. "We’re always looking for ways to make learning activities engaging and meaningful because we know that's when students thrive."
“Today’s students are often very thoughtful about what they are looking for in higher education,” said Gillette. “Yet time and again, the most important factor is whether the student can envision themselves on the campus. That’s why we love these events and encourage interested students to come for a tour. Or, if they are far away, they can check out our interactive campus map and schedule a virtual appointment with one of our counselors.”
If you’re interested in learning more or want to apply, you can use the Common App or click here for the EC app. Those who apply ahead of the Early Action deadline (November 15) will receive an admission decision by December 1, which will help you assess your options before you make your final decision. Those with a completed FAFSA will be among the earliest to receive their financial aid packages, with further information to use in your decision-making process.
