Anyone looking for a refresher on the United States Constitution can find creative representations of some of the document’s 27 amendments in the Elmira College Gannett-Tripp Library.
These creative illustrations of the Constitution and its amendments are developed each year by students, most recently in the Electronic Art Studio class, to celebrate Constitution and Citizenship Day on September 17. The student work will remain on display in the GTL lobby showcase until October 10.
Jan Kather, Instructor of Art, has assembled the exhibit for over ten years in various classes. She noted that September 17-23 is newly recognized as Constitution Week, and that the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services encourages American citizens to reflect on the rights and responsibilities of citizenship at this time of year.
“The Constitution provides the students with a variety of topics to focus on,” she added. “The 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote, was the most popular amendment this year. Three women students chose to illustrate it.”
