Elmira College is continuing to remove barriers for students looking to access the benefits of a premier private institution. Beginning in January 2026, the College will extend its Soaring Eagles Take Flight Initiative to incoming transfer students.
In this program, EC combines scholarships with state and federal grants and awards to cover full-time tuition and mandatory fees for eligible, full-time transfer students. To be eligible, students must be New York State residents with a combined family income of $50,000 or less. Transfer students also must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA from previous college coursework.
“When we began our Take Flight commitment last year, it was only for incoming first-year students. The program was highly successful, so we’re excited to offer the same benefits to our growing transfer community,” said Dennis M. Kelly, Vice President of Enrollment Management at EC. “Now, with our Take Flight commitment open to all undergraduate students, we can ensure that no matter a student’s economic background or life experience, they can join our close-knit Soaring Eagles family.”
The expansion of the Take Flight Initiative adds to the benefits EC already offers transfer students, including strong articulation agreements with two-year institutions, scholarships, and other transfer-friendly initiatives. For example, with the Fall 2025 entering class, EC launched its Good Neighbor program, offering PA students an Elmira College need-based grant equivalent to their PA Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) award. For students starting Fall 2026, EC will expand the Good Neighbor program to include students from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Rhode Island. The maximum Good Neighbor Award for students in these five states is $5,750.
And, beginning Fall 2026, incoming transfer students who earned the rank of Eagle Scout in Scouting America (formerly the Boy Scouts of America) and the Gold Award in the Girl Scouts of the USA can receive the Scout Achievement Award, a renewable $2,500 annual award.
For these transfer-friendly opportunities, combined with EC’s strong academic programs, PTK has again named EC to its annual Transfer Honor Roll, marking the fifth year in a row EC has made the list.
With the expansion of the Take Flight Initiative and the addition of new scholarships and recognitions, Elmira College reaffirms its commitment to making a private education both accessible and rewarding for transfer students.
