Elmira College Again Granted Scholarship Funds From The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation

For the 13th consecutive year, Elmira College received a generous grant from The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation. The $15,000 grant-in-aid is distributed to selected Tioga County, New York, students who have demonstrated financial need for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Since 2013, Truman Foundation scholarships have assisted 46 Tioga County students enrolled at Elmira College.

Students like Jordan Gannon ’26, a Childhood and Childhood Special Education double major from Apalachin, New York, and Zoe Slater ’28, a Nursing major from Owego, New York. In their thank you letters, Gannon and Slater shared what receiving Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation scholarships meant to them.

“I sincerely appreciate receiving the Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation scholarship aid,” wrote Gannon. “Throughout my time at Elmira College, I have been blessed with several amazing opportunities and made so many amazing friends that I will carry with me throughout the rest of my life. Coming from such a small town, I never dreamed of attending such a prestigious and welcoming college. I enjoy playing a college sport and being part of a team at such a competitive level. I have learned so much from my coach and teammates, creating relationships that will last a lifetime. Along with participating in the sport of cheerleading, I also love to hang out with my friends and make new memories here at Elmira College. In addition to the opportunity to participate in collegiate athletics, Elmira College has also made it possible for me to better myself as a future teacher, as my major is a dual major in childhood and special education. It has been my dream to be a teacher and change young children’s lives for as long as I can remember, and Elmira gives me the opportunity to be in the classroom with practicums.”

“As a current nursing student, I have been studying hard to achieve my goal of becoming an RN,” wrote Slater. “Elmira College has been a very welcoming, albeit challenging (in all the right ways) aid in getting to my goals. It is with your generosity that I am able to continue my education at this amazing institution, and I am eternally grateful for the honor of the scholarship presented to me.”

"The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation strongly supports the pursuit of higher education and is proud to continue providing these scholarships to Tioga County students attending Elmira College," said Stephanie Carrigg, Executive Director of the Foundation.

“Mrs. Faulkner Truman's foresight in establishing this grant-in-aid opportunity for Tioga County students is a true testament to her business acumen and her compassion," said Dr. Charles Lindsay, Elmira College President. “We thank the Foundation for its ongoing commitment to and investment in the success and growth of our students."
