Admissions
Looking for a small, close-knit campus filled with incredible, hands-on learning opportunities? Our Admissions Office can help make Elmira College YOUR place.
This “Move-In Monday” is about the importance of the non-academic aspects of your college experience, often called campus life or student life. These social, academic, and recreational experiences are about forming relationships, exploring interests, and participating in activities beyond the classroom. And it’s not just about having fun - studies show that participating in campus events and activities contributes to your personal and professional growth, leads to stronger friendships, and better academic performance.
So mark your calendars with these key events and remember to bring your purple-and-gold spirit!
Throughout the Fall Term: athletics events. Whether you’re on one of our 19 athletic teams or not, games and matches are a fun activity where you can cheer on your classmates and be a part of the purple and gold excitement. Visit the Event Calendar for a listing of local and away games.
September 10: EC Clubs and Organizations Fair: Learn about the different clubs and organizations on campus. Get ready to sign up for the ones you want to participate in.
September 11: Each year, the Elmira College community holds a commemorative event to honor the lives lost during the 9/11 attacks. This includes the placement of nearly 3,000 flags in memory of those lost and a special one to honor EC alumnus Darryl McKinney ’97.
September 13: The First Year First Service Day. First-year students will fulfill some of their service hour requirements by helping a local organization.
September 24: Community Engagement Fair. Area non-profit organizations will share their work in the community and the many ways students can volunteer and earn community service hours.
September 19-21: Family Weekend. After giving their student time to settle into college life, families return to campus for a fun-filled weekend and the chance to learn more about what their student is up to.
September 20: Octagon Fair. Another annual tradition hosted by the Office of Alumni Engagement, this community-wide, family-oriented event showcases our talented student-run organizations and vendors from the local community.
Week of September 28: Mountain Day. An annual EC tradition where part of the fun is students chanting and singing nightly to entice the EC President to grant a Mountain Day. When the president relents, students get a day off from classes to enjoy fun activities and some welcome relaxation.
October 11-14: Fall Break. About halfway through the Term, students get a moment to head home and recharge.
November 22-November 30: Thanksgiving Break. Celebrate the holiday, rest, and prepare for exams.
December 5: Holiday Banquet. An honored tradition where students, faculty, and staff enjoy a family-style dinner together with seasonal cheer.
December 12, Fall 2024 Term ends.
