Elmira College Earns Another 4-Star Rating by Money

The financial publication, Money, again named Elmira College to its "Best Colleges in America 2025" list. This annual ranking assesses affordability and value for prospective students, analyzing things like graduation rates, cost of attendance, and financial aid. This is the third year the publication used a five-star rating system, and EC received four stars all three years, placing EC high in the ratings for a college of its size.

Money’s newer system recognizes that there are multiple ways for a school to provide value depending on prospective students’ goals. According to Money’s website, “There isn't one 'best' college for every student, but our star ratings can help you build a list of standout schools that fit your budget.”

To be among the 732 institutions rated, the school had to:

  • Have at least 500 undergraduate students or 150 freshmen.

  • Have sufficient, reliable data to be analyzed.

  • Not be in financial distress.

  • Have a graduation rate that was at or above the median for its institutional category, or have a high “value-added” graduation rate.

After meeting the above criteria, colleges are ranked based on 25 factors in three categories: quality (30%), affordability (40%), and outcomes (30%). See Money's full methodology.

Money noted that EC provides grants to 100% of students in need and that the average amount of money awarded for merit is $21,450.

"It's a true honor to be included in Money's list of Best Colleges in America," said Dr. Charles Lindsay, President of Elmira College. "At EC, we take pride in offering one of the most competitive tuition rates among private colleges in the region because we understand how crucial affordability is for families. It’s why we began our Take Flight Program, which covers 100% of the tuition cost for eligible New York state students, and other affordability programs like our Good Neighbor Award. It’s also why we’re committed to a distinctive blend of liberal arts and professional programs that ensures our students are well-prepared for successful careers. As part of that focus, EC students complete at least one internship before they graduate, building a strong network of support that’s enhanced by our dedicated alumni."
