The Tenacious Class of 2025 recently began the countdown to graduation at the annual Graduating Class Reception. During the celebration, students learned about their responsibilities as future alumni and were presented with awards including the Outstanding Graduate Award and Alumni Ring.

"This reception is a celebration of YOU, the Tenacious Class of 2025," said Dr. Charles Lindsay, President of Elmira College. "While we're sad you'll be leaving us, we're also proud of what you've accomplished. Some of you have discovered your path in life, which is really what it’s all about. And each of you has contributed to the life of the College and enriched it in many ways."

Rick Kozan ’95, Vice President of the Elmira College Alumni Association Board of Directors, reviewed the rights and responsibilities of alumni, encouraging students to stay connected, leverage and become part of the alumni network, attend Reunion events, and give what they can so that future generations can continue to thrive at EC.

"Enjoy your remaining time at Elmira to the fullest," Kozan said. “Spend time with your friends and get to know classmates you don’t know well.”

Allisandra Scalessa ’25, Class President, then addressed the attendees, sharing that her parents are EC alumni. “...my parents have always raved about how special their time at Elmira was. Being able to cherish these once-in-a-lifetime memories with my parents means so much to me and I am extremely grateful for their encouragement to come join their legacy at Elmira. Elmira College is a family and I now understand why my parents continue to support EC and even come back for all the alumni weekends, and I can't wait to join them next year as an alumni myself.”

Following the remarks came the awarding of the Alumni Ring, awarded each year to a student who represents the spirit of Elmira College. This year's Alumni Ring recipient was Linda Avery ’25, Business Administration major. The ring was donated by Elizabeth “Libby” Merrell Hull '35.

Lindsay announced this year’s Outstanding Graduate Award, which recognizes a well-rounded student who is sincerely dedicated to the welfare of the College and student body. The student exemplifies citizenship, character, standing among peers, and contributions to extra-curricular life at Elmira College. This year's winner was Ryan Trenholm ’25, Biochemistry major.

The Alumni Association Board of Directors then presented alumni pins to the graduating class, followed by a toast given by Kozan. Wine for the toast was donated by Jack Hurley ’71 and Bedell Cellars.
