Ann Borland Pardy '62, a cherished Elmira College alumna, led a life full of love, learning, and a dedication to nurturing the future. Pardy recently passed away, but her values are being immortalized in a gift to Elmira College as an endowed scholarship that will help future students find their place with similar cherished friends and impactful academic experiences.
Pardy’s early years began among the picturesque landscapes of Middletown, New York. From there her education and early life experiences led her to Elmira College. Graduating in 1962, Pardy carried with her not just a diploma but a deep-seated love for knowledge and an enduring connection to the institution that shaped her as a young adult.
Soon after she graduated, Pardy married Rosevelt "Ted" Pardy, her soulmate and lifelong partner. Together, they built a beautiful family that became the heart of Pardy’s world. Whether in her garden or making treats in the kitchen, her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter brought immense joy to Pardy’s life.
Professionally, Pardy’s journey began as a teacher in Arizona, where she kindled a love of learning in her young students. Later, after relocating to Lincoln, Nebraska, Pardy continued her dedication to supporting others, balancing her roles as a loving wife, mother, and legal assistant. After 20 fulfilling years as a legal assistant, Pardy retired in 2000, but her passion for community service never waned.
With a generous spirit and kind heart, Pardy found joy in caring for others. She went on to volunteer for Lincoln Literacy, delivered meals through Meals on Wheels, and supported the People’s City Mission, all while continuing to nurture those around her with kindness and grace. For over 40 years, she was much more than an advocate—she was a lifeline, confidant, and steadfast friend to a disadvantaged person. Pardy's willingness to support and uplift those in need was not just a part of her life—it was central to who she was.
Pardy's caring nature extended to her friends from Elmira College, with whom she stayed closely connected. Whether meeting virtually or in person, these regular gatherings reflected the deep and lasting bonds she had cultivated, underscoring her lifelong dedication to nurturing relationships.
Pardy’s life was one of giving, and even as she faced the end of her journey, her desire to help others never faltered. Before her passing, Pardy ensured that a portion of her IRA would be gifted to Elmira College, creating an endowed scholarship that will support future students for generations to come. This gift was not just a donation, but a way for Pardy to pass on the same love of learning and joy in community that shaped her own life.
Pardy’s story is a powerful reminder of the difference one person’s generosity can make. Her gift is a way for her to continue nurturing the growth and development of students at Elmira College, much like she nurtured her family and friends.
