The financial publication, Money, again named Elmira College to its "Best Colleges in America 2024" list. This annual ranking assesses affordability and value for prospective students, analyzing things like graduation rates, cost of attendance, and financial aid. This is the second year the publication used a five-star rating system and EC received four stars both years, placing EC high in the ratings for a college of its size.
Money’s newer system recognizes that there are multiple ways for a school to provide value, and multiple “best” colleges, depending on prospective students’ goals. According to Money’s website, “There isn't one "best" college for every student, but our star ratings can help you build a list of standout schools that fit your budget.”
To be among the 745 institutions rated, the school had to:
Have at least 500 undergraduate students.
Have sufficient, reliable data to be analyzed.
Not be in financial distress.
Have a graduation rate that was at or above the median for its institutional category.
After meeting the above criteria, colleges are ranked based on 25 factors in the following three categories: quality (30%), affordability (40%), and outcomes (30%). See Money's full methodology.
Money noted that EC provides grants to 100% of students in need and that the average amount of money awarded for merit is nearly $20,000.
"It's a true honor to be included in Money's list of Best Colleges in America," said Dr. Charles Lindsay, President of Elmira College. "At EC, we take pride in offering one of the most competitive tuition rates among private colleges in the region because we understand how crucial affordability is for families. That's why we’re committed to delivering exceptional value to our students. Our distinctive blend of liberal arts and professional programs ensures our students are well-prepared for successful careers. For those pursuing further education, we provide smooth transitions to various graduate programs. It’s also why EC students complete at least one internship before they graduate. Internships provide practical skills and build a strong network of support that’s enhanced by our dedicated alumni."
