Elmira College Granted Scholarship Funds From The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation

For the 12th consecutive year, Elmira College received a generous grant from The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation. The $15,000 grant-in-aid is distributed to selected Tioga County, New York, students who have demonstrated financial need for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Since 2013, Truman Foundation scholarships have assisted 40 Tioga County students enrolled at Elmira College.

Students like recent graduates Rianna Benesh ’24, a Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Psychology triple major from Candor, New York, and Mackenzie Mills ’24, a Business Administration major from Spencer, New York. In their thank you letters, Benesh and Mills shared what receiving The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation scholarship aid meant to them.

“Throughout my time at Elmira College, I have been blessed with several amazing opportunities that were available to me!” wrote Benesh. “I was able to have a personal relationship with a lot of my professors who have helped me a lot through my four years here. I also really enjoyed being a part of a competitive sports team here on campus that gives me a lot of opportunities that I did not have back home. I look forward to achieving my dreams of becoming a school psychologist following graduation from Elmira College. All of the different departments here at Elmira College have been preparing me for a life of success and I can’t wait to see where I end up after EC.”

“I have learned so much from my professors, mentors, and bosses,” wrote Mills. “I have completed two internships with a total of two-hundred and forty hours while completing my degree requirements and finished my degree two semesters early. I have learned so much from the Human Resources Department throughout being an intern and created relationships that will last a lifetime. In addition to the opportunities, attending Elmira College has also made it possible for me to travel to Alaska. I never thought I would visit Alaska, but I am so glad that I took the trip and made amazing memories. I look forward to challenging myself and visiting more places and experiencing more adventures. I look forward to achieving my dreams of being my own boss in the future.”

"The Mildred Faulkner Truman Foundation strongly supports the pursuit of higher education and is proud to continue providing these scholarships to Tioga County students attending Elmira College," said Stephanie Carrigg, Executive Director of the Foundation.

“Mrs. Faulkner Truman's foresight in establishing this grant-in-aid opportunity for Tioga County students is a true testament to her business acumen and her compassion," said Dr. Charles Lindsay, Elmira College President. “We thank the Foundation for its ongoing commitment to and investment in the success and growth of our students."
