EC Class of 1963 Donates Patio To Enhance Outdoor Activities

Thanks to the Elmira College Class of 1963, the EC community has a new place on campus to sit and entertain. The Class gifted the campus an outdoor patio area in front of the Campus Center, a space often used for seating and dining during events like Mountain Day and May Days.

The Class of ’63 raised $25,000 to install the patio with an additional $1,000 donated for landscaping. The EC Buildings and Grounds team oversaw the installation and completed the work in time for Reunion 2024, where alumni attended a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

"The idea of the patio originated with the College when they reached out to our Class and asked us to consider it as a Class gift,” explained alumna Joan Hitchcock Flint ’63. Flint previously served on the Alumni Board and was her Class Secretary and Reunion Chair.

“I probably speak for all of us when I say that, in addition to a solid education at Elmira College, we learned leadership skills and made lasting friendships. I hope all who enter Elmira College will benefit from that same experience."

The patio extends the seating options near the Campus Center, giving students the option to sit under the shaded CC Portico or on the sunnier patio. It is also an ideal space to enjoy live music that is often offered on the CC Portico.
