Gannett-Tripp Library Awarded Digitization Grant

The South Central Regional Library Council (SCRLC) awarded the Elmira College Gannett-Tripp Library a $4,200 grant for the digitization of 117 issues of the College's Iris yearbooks dating from 1896 to 2016, and 175 issues of the Alumni Bulletin (later renamed Campus Magazine) from 1974 until 2021.

“The library staff is pleased to be able to preserve and make available the personal and institutional history contained in these treasured documents, some of which are brittle and deteriorating,” said Magaret Kappanadze, Director of the Library. “Alumni, their family members, and other researchers frequently request information from the yearbooks and magazines to refresh their memories, complete family histories, and investigate College history. Once the project is completed, staff and online users can access information seamlessly and efficiently.”

Claire Lovell, Digital Services Librarian at SCRLC, will be in charge of scanning the material and loading it to the New York Heritage Digital Collections site where it will be accessible and searchable to all users.

Library staff members will post links to the site on its Special Collections/Elmira College Archives web page. Work on the project will begin this summer and will be completed by June 2025.
