EC Launches Pep Band

Elmira College is excited to announce the launch of a new, student-run Pep Band, which will begin rehearsals and performances with the Fall 2024 term.

“I've always been involved or have studied music and flute performance,” said Emma Guthrie ’26, a Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science triple-major and piccolo player. “I'm so excited to continue my passion for music at Elmira College!”

The Pep Band, which is open to students, alumni, and employees, will add to EC’s campus culture, help build school spirit, and provide new arts opportunities for EC community members that create a sense of community and pride. Participation in the Pep Band is open to all students, regardless of academic major.

“Playing in a band has been something I've enjoyed for over a decade, and having the opportunity to share that experience once again with the entire EC community (employees and alumni included) is very exciting to me," added Nate Romano ’25, a Biology and Biochemistry double-major and percussionist.

EC has also announced the Pep Band Talent Award for incoming, full-time undergraduate students. Eligible recipients of the Award will receive a total of $1,000 annually toward the cost of tuition at EC.

"Music is a big part of the culture at EC. This group will carry on that tradition while creating the soundtrack for EC events and athletic competitions and building energy and enthusiasm on campus," shared Patrick Gillette, Pep Band Staff Co-Advisor and Director of Admissions. "We are a close-knit community and the blended membership of the pep band represents the personal experience and total campus experience our students enjoy, both inside and outside the classroom.”

Local alumni, employees, and current students interested in learning more about the Pep Band, can contact Guthrie at eguthrie26@elmira.edu or Romano at nromano25@elmira.edu.

The group will recruit during the remainder of Term II and into Term III of the 2023-2024 academic year, with formal rehearsals beginning Term I in the fall. Since the Pep Band will be recognized as an official club, Gillette and Jennifer Swain, Vice President of Communications & Marketing, will serve as Staff Co-Advisors to the group.
