Elmira College Welcomes New VP of Advancement and Alumni Engagement

Elmira College welcomes Paula Lee Hobson as the new Vice President of Advancement and Alumni Engagement. Hobson’s efforts will help the College increase the support it receives from individuals and foundations to achieve long-term financial sustainability.

Hobson brings a distinguished track record in institutional advancement, development, marketing, and communications. She has worked in higher education for 24 years, and the private sector for an additional 14 years. Most recently, Hobson served as Vice President for College Advancement at Hartwick College in Oneonta for three years.

“I am delighted that Paula Lee has accepted our invitation to join Elmira College in this important leadership role,” said Dr. Charles Lindsay, Elmira College President. “She is an experienced and successful fundraising professional. Paula Lee has the combination of skills and personal qualities needed to lead this work as the college and our supporters shape Elmira College’s future.”

Hobson has won numerous fundraising and marketing industry awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Marketing Association. At Hartwick, Hobson launched a $55 million fundraising campaign in support of a new strategic plan. While Vice President for University Advancement at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire, she helped complete a record-setting “Imagine a Way” fundraising campaign, surpassing the institution’s $30 million goal.

Before moving east, Hobson spent 16 years as Executive Director of Institutional Advancement for Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nevada. There, she led an award-winning staff that brought in more than $25 million to enhance academic programs, capital projects, instructional equipment, and student scholarships. In 2013, her efforts helped land Truckee Meadows in the top 50 community college foundations out of more than 1,200 two-year institutions.

A first-generation college graduate, Hobson earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Oregon. In 2008, she earned a master’s degree from the University of Nevada in journalism. She is a native of Coquille, Oregon and she enjoys gardening, cooking, playing the piano, and outdoor sports.
