On Friday, August 18, Elmira College acknowledged a group of the nation's most talented high school students for their scholastic achievements and contributions to their communities at the yearly Elmira College Key Award event. With a history dating back to 1935, this tradition entails honoring exceptional students who are in their junior year of high school or preparatory school.
This year, the award was given to 783 students in 16 states and U.S. territories. Recipients receive an $80,000 scholarship over a four-year period, $20,000 per year, upon enrolling at Elmira College.
Speaking to students during the ceremony, Patrick Gillette, Director of Admissions said, “We know you are someone who would thrive as a member of the Elmira College campus community, and we want to invest in your success at Elmira College.”
Sponsored by the Alumni Association, the Key Award recognizes students for high scholastic achievement, leadership, citizenship, and participation in extracurricular activities.

“Whether you are looking to participate in NCAA athletics, join our campus radio station WECW, participate in research projects with faculty, are an aspiring performer looking to join one of our a cappella groups, or take to the stage behind me in one of our theatre performances, we look forward to seeing who you will become in your four years on campus,” said Gillette.
The attending recipients met with Elmira College professors, staff, current students, and athletic coaches; attended information sessions about EC programs; and toured the campus.
