Award-winning wealth management advisor and Elmira College alumna, Kimberly L. Curtis ’83, will be the principal speaker at EC’s 165th Commencement ceremony on June 4. Curtis, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wealth Legacy Institute in Denver, Colorado, has made it her mission to ensure that money mastery is not for a limited few. As a result, she is considered among the world’s foremost experts in building wealth consciousness by helping people across the globe gain access to and learn how to be creative with money.

“We are honored to have such a distinguished member of our alumni community share her wisdom with our graduating class,” said Dr. Charles Lindsay, President of Elmira College. “Kim embodies the values of our institution and serves as a beacon of excellence and inspiration within the field of finance and beyond. We know she will impart keen insights with our graduates as they look ahead to the next step in their exciting journeys.”

Curtis’s client-centric wealth planning model called The Planning for LIFE Experience™, received the Editor’s Choice by the Journal of Practical Estate Planning. This model is at the center of her firm’s holistic and successful approach to integrated wealth management. She has worked directly with thought leaders, celebrities, entrepreneurs, and individuals, helping them change the way they think about money and life. Together they find ways to make an impact.

As a speaker and author, Curtis wrote Money Secrets: Keys to Smart Investing and Retirement Secrets: Keys to Retiring Happy, Healthy & Free. She is recognized by the American financial planning industry for achieving the highest level of competence and expertise.

During her time at Elmira College, Curtis studied Criminal Justice and was a member of the women’s basketball team and the Student Association. Curtis’s internship with the Neighborhood Justice Project, an organization that worked with disputes through facilitation, negotiation, and mediation, helped focus her interest in alternative dispute resolution.

After EC, Curtis continued her education at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law, for her master’s degree in judicial administration. As an alumna, Curtis keeps Elmira close to her heart, having served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors and, with administrative help, started the Outstanding Graduate Award more than 35 years ago. When the 2017 award was announced, Curtis was visibly moved realizing the positive impact the award has had on recipients over the years. She received the 2018 Distinguished Achievement Award from Elmira College for her professional and community leadership, recognizing the ways she improved the quality of life for people locally and globally.
