Elmira College Theatre will close the 2021-2022 academic year with "Vanities: The Musical." A public performance will be on May 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m., in Gibson Theatre at Elmira College.

Vanities is an upbeat musical that chronicles the life-affirming journey of three vivacious Texas teens from cheerleaders to sorority sisters to housewives to liberated women and beyond. The music is inspired by the 1960s and 1970s.

"The show showcases the talents of our students both on stage and off, which was one of the reasons we picked it this year," said Hannah Hammond, Assistant Professor of Theatre. "Vanities is about friendship, finding yourself, and forgiveness, themes we can all relate to. Each of the women in the show has their own journey in finding out who they are, I think audiences will find elements of themselves in each of the characters."

Theatre major Josh Stuttle '22 took on the role of Assistant Director.

"Normally I am on the other side of the stage performing, so having an opportunity to experience and learn all the hard work and preparation that goes into being a director, has been very beneficial," he said. "I love being involved in helping create a vision for the show. Assistant Directing has given me a new set of skills that will help my professional career."

The production cast are:

  • Genevieve Elliot '25
  • Ana Marotti '23
  • Alleney Klunk '25

Music direction was provided by Randy Cornell, Hanna Yoselevich '22 designed the lighting, Jadde DiDonato-White '23 designed costumes, and Scott McGuire provided technical direction and scenic design.

Tickets are available at https://www. brownpapertickets.com/event/ 5446096. Admission is $5 and free for Elmira College students, faculty, and staff with an ID.

"I hope the audience has a good time," said Stuttle. "This show is wild and crazy, and I'm looking forward to bringing the audience along for the ride."

"I'm so excited to bring this lovely little show to the Elmira community!" exclaimed Hammond.
