The Helen Hitchcock Bjorvand Drawing Prize was endowed in recognition of an extraordinary member of the art faculty, and is presented annually to the full-time Elmira College student submitting the best portfolio of drawings. This year's recipient is Callie "Max" Lundin '22.

"I am honored to be receiving the Helen Hitchcock Bjorvand Drawing Prize," said Lundin. "I love what I do and it's a great feeling to be recognized for the long nights spent on a piece."

"Max is a masterful tonalist, with incredible sensitivity to the slightest variations in light and shadow, that, when replicated, create illusionistic spaces and dramatically dimensional forms," says Professor Aaron Kather, instructor in fine arts. "Max is particularly skilled at photorealistic renderings of people that capture the essence and emotion of their subjects. Whether it is called skill or talent, the truth behind Max's accomplishments is a work ethic driven by a deep passion for art."

Lundin's work is also featured in the Gannett-Tripp Library and was selected for a prize during the Term III art exhibition.
