The Elmira College Office of Admissions recently announced the awardees for this year's Elmira College Scholars Program.

The Scholars Program awards five full-tuition scholarships per year to first-year, full-time students through an application and interview process. Eligible applicants need to have a 3.9 GPA or a 3.7 GPA as well as 1300 SAT or 28 ACT composite.

More than 60 students applied to the Program this year. From that group, 20 students were selected for an interview, with the following 10 students selected as finalists:

Rachel Bortnick - Cropseyville, New York (Berlin High School)
Anticipated major: Environmental Science

Nicole Davis - Livingston Manor, New York (Livingston Manor Central School)
Anticipated major: Psychology

Adam DiMarco - Potsdam, New York (Potsdam Central High School)
Anticipated major: Pre-Physical Therapy: Biology

Anna Hooper - Fultonham, New York (Middleburgh High School)
Anticipated major: Adolescence Education, English Literature

Kaela Howard - Endicott, New York (Maine-Endwell High School)
Anticipated major: Biology

Eric Lucas - Newmarket, Ontario, Canada (Sir William Mulock Secondary School)
Anticipated major: Mathematics

Arwen-Vira Marsh - Brooklyn, New York (Fiorello H LaGuardia High School of Music, Art and Performing Arts)
Anticipated major: Theatre

Abigail Ploetz - West Valley, New York (Ellicottville Central School)
Anticipated major: Childhood Education

Maya Powers - Worcester, New York (Worcester Central School)
Anticipate major: Political Science/Pre-Law

Ryan Trenholm - Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, Canada (Charles P. Allen High School)
Anticipated major: Biology

A College committee, comprised of faculty and administrators, review the students' high school transcripts, academic profiles, letters of recommendation, personal statements, and video essay. From the finalists, five students are chosen as Elmira Scholars. This year's Elmira Scholars are:

  • Anna Hooper
  • Arwen-Vira Marsh
  • Maya Powers
  • Ryan Trenholm

The Elmira Scholars will receive a full-tuition scholarship, renewable at the level of the entering year for up to four years, upon enrollment at Elmira College. Runner-up finalists will receive a $25,000 Trustee Scholarship, the highest merit scholarship offered at Elmira College.
