Elmira College ranks #21 on the list of the Top 248 Bachelor's Colleges according to the Washington Monthly's annual college rankings.

The rankings focus on what colleges are doing for their students, but also for their contribution to the public good. To measure this impact, colleges are rated on three broad categories:

  • Social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students);
  • Research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and PhDs); and
  • Public Service (encouraging students to give something back to society).

"We are honored to be included in the Washington Monthly's Top Bachelor's Colleges," said Dr. Charles Lindsay, president of Elmira College. "Elmira College brings together a liberal arts education with professional programs, balancing the emotional with the practical and equipping students with the tools and skills to succeed in the professional world. The College also has one of the lowest undergraduate tuition prices of any four-year private college or university in the region, making Elmira College accessible to a broad spectrum of students and families."

Students at Elmira College are required to complete a specific number of community engagement (public service) hours in the local community and also must complete an internship prior to graduating. Many students opt to complete their internships within the regional Elmira community, providing support to local businesses and organizations.

"A student's undergraduate years at Elmira have the power to be transformational because they provide an opportunity for focused intellectual, personal, and social growth," said Lindsay. "It is not just about what happens in the classroom, but also about providing opportunities - on campus and beyond - for students to explore the community and world around them, to find their voice, and to learn to lead in their own individual way. We are enabling students to become active learners, effective leaders, responsible community members, and globally engaged citizens."
