Elmira College and the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences have formed a new collaborative agreement that will provide students the opportunity to earn a doctor of pharmacy degree in a shorter amount of time.

A memorandum of agreement was formally signed on Nov. 6, 2017, by Dr. Charles Lindsay, Elmira College President; Dr. Charles Mitchell, Elmira College Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs; Dr. Dr. Lynn Gillie, Elmira College Dean of Academic Affairs; and Dr. James O' Donnell, Dean of the UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Dr. Gillie, Pre-Health Professions Advisor and Dean said, "Elmira College students have had great success at the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. We are pleased to contribute to the 3+4 collaborative agreement to facilitate student entry into the excellent PharmD program at UB. "

Under the 3+4 agreement, students will complete three years of undergraduate study in Elmira College's biochemistry program and then apply to UB's pharmacy program. Once accepted, students will have their first-year pharmacy courses applied toward completion of their bachelor's degree at Elmira College.

Rather than taking four years to complete a bachelor's degree and another four years to complete the doctor of pharmacy degree, students will complete both programs in seven years. The pharmacy program will guarantee spaces each year for qualified Elmira College students.

Discussing the UB-Elmira partnership, Dean O'Donnell said, "The University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences values our strong collaboration with Elmira College, and this 3+4 agreement will further solidify this partnership. We look forward to having their best and brightest students as members of our PharmD program."
