In the event of an after-hours emergency or mental health crisis, please contact Campus Safety at (607) 735-1777. They will help connect you to the Elmira College Professional Staff on Call, the Chumung County Crisis Center, or the TimelyCare Talk Now service.
Also consider calling the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
If you are concerned about the emotional wellbeing of a student, share your concern with that person by giving specific feedback about the concerning behaviors. If the student agrees that there is a problem and wants to address it, mention that counseling services are available through TimelyCare. Consider offering to help them sign up for a session or accompany the student to an initial appointment if doubt or discomfort about counseling is expressed.
If the problem is critical or involves safety issues, contact Campus Safety at 607.735.1777. They are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Another avenue you can pursue is faith-based counseling, which strives to help you find healing, guidance, and support through your faith. Faith-based counseling services include individual faith-informed counseling, spiritual guidance, and crisis support. These services are provided by Pastor Jeff Seeley. While Pastor Jeff invites anyone of any faith, his counsel is based on a biblical lens.
