NURSING BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (BSN)

The Nurse education curriculum requires students to begin their clinical experiences in the sophomore year. A variety of clinical settings - inpatient, outpatient, and community facilities - prepare students who are practice-ready for today's complex and challenging health care environment.

A six-week, full time clinical preceptorship working side-by-side with an expert clinical nurse is a unique feature of the final nursing course. Additionally, our Nursing program is a direct-admit and all courses are taught on the Elmira College campus.

Admissions and Progression Criteria:

  • GPA of 2.7
  • Completion of at least 2 required sciences with a C to begin nursing sequence

COMMUNICATION SCIENCES AND DISORDERS

Students prepare for graduate level study and, ultimately for careers in speech-language pathology (SLP) or audiology. SLPs work in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, health departments and private practice and their main objective is to identify and treat developmental and acquired communication disorders. Audiologists work in hospitals, medical practices and private practices and primarily diagnose hearing problems, fit hearing aids, and counsel clients regarding hearing loss.

Decide between two majors: Speech and Hearing | Speech-Language Disabilities*

*provides students with their initial teaching certifcate in New York State.

CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) graduates become active in medical research. Opportunities in independent laboratories and biotechnology industries are increasing. Students can obtain a job after graduating from Elmira College, although graduate level study opportunities are available.

ELMIRA COLLEGE 3+1 Program - Includes a three-year concentration in CLS at the College, followed by one year of hospital training in preparation for certifcation.
