As part of Elmira College’s efforts to generate a diverse and inclusive community on campus, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) was established to enrich the student experience on campus.
Through a three-fold approach, the focus of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is on supporting students, enriching the campus community, and collaborating with staff and faculty to provide a holistic service to students across disciplines.
The I.D.E.A Center, which stands for Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility, is a physical space located in the Campus Center designed to provide students with a supportive, student-focused space. The I.D.E.A. Center provides a place for students to gather in a casual setting, a meeting and program space for student clubs, and a space for special speakers and events.
The Office of DEI is actively engaged with culture-based and gender-based clubs on campus. The office provides advisory support to ensure these clubs have the necessary resources and support to celebrate their culture and initiatives. The Office of DEI will also provide leadership development and self-care-based programs, to help ensure the success of the student leadership.
In an effort to enrich the campus as a whole, the Office of DEI will initiate and implement efforts to spread awareness and celebrate other cultures. From working with dining services to celebrate cultures through food, to inviting guest speakers to campus to share life and professional experiences, the campus will have the opportunity to share in the experience of other cultures together.
Staff and faculty are a primary source of support for all students at Elmira College. Through collaborative measures, the Office of DEI will join together with faculty and staff across multiple disciplines to generate innovative practices that invoke inclusion and equity for the Elmira College community.
