Elmira College is a private liberal arts College located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Elmira College was the first college to offer a comprehensive curriculum for women, and is home of the Center for Mark Twain Studies. We are seeking a General Maintenance and Housekeeping Laborer to join the Facilities team at the Murray Athletic Center (MAC).

This position is responsible for general maintenance, ice management, and housekeeping of the MAC.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ice Management of the ice arena (operating the Olympia and other tools associated with the rink);
  • Maintaining the ice plant mechanicals and operations;
  • General maintenance of the entire facility inside and outside which includes, but is not limited to, painting, electrical, plumbing;
  • Mowing and trimming of the grounds;
  • Plowing and salting of all traveled areas;
  • Maintaining records of the fields and ice;
  • Inspect and care for all locker rooms;
  • Maintain, clean, and disinfect bathrooms (showers, toilets, sinks);
  • Maintain supplies in storage areas/closets;
  • Vacuuming and carpet cleaning; may use a floor machine, buffer, mop, etc.;
  • Clean windows, walls, and woodwork;
  • Remove trash and recyclables;
  • Dusting and polishing;
  • Monitor, report, and/or address MAC for any damage and/or disturbances daily/weekly.

This is a fast-paced position and may require some weekends and evenings. The individual in this role will need to work men's and women's hockey games and special events as needed.

Job Qualifications and Expectations:

  • High school education or GED preferred;
  • Ability to use a computer and tablet for email and record keeping for the facility;
  • Six (6) months of related experience;
  • A valid driver's license and acceptable driving history per Elmira College's Insurance carrier;
  • Ability to interact with students, faculty, staff, and visitors on a daily basis;
  • Ability to stoop, bend, twist, reach, and carry 50+ pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation;
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed;
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality;
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently with minimal supervision

Working conditions for this position are diverse and is split 50/50 of indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions. All employees must follow all PPE recommendations set forth by Elmira College and the Director of Facilities.
