Elmira College earns Colleges of Distinction honors

Elmira College has once again been recognized by Colleges of Distinction for its commitment to experiential education that pairs liberal arts with professional programs. Colleges of Distinction is an online guide for college-bound students that advocates for schools with undergraduate programs grounded in a philosophy of well-rounded, individualized engagement, teaching, community, and outcomes. This honor reaffirms EC's excellence in its goal to support students and provide hands-on experiences that will shape critical thinking and a broad view of the world.

In addition to the College of Distinction honor overall and in New York, Elmira College received specialized recognition in Business, Education, Nursing, and Career Development.

Colleges of Distinction only honors colleges that adhere to the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes. Additionally, the organization began a few years ago to prioritize high-impact practices that make for a fulfilling, individualized college experience. As part of the selection process, Colleges of Distinction conducts in-depth research and detailed interviews with the schools about each institution's freshman experience and retention efforts alongside its general education programs, career development, strategic plan, student satisfaction, and more.

About the recognized programs:

Education: This program graduates future educators who are not only knowledgeable but also efficient mentors who provide empathetic support and novel teaching methods.

Nursing: This hands-on program provides students an opportunity for clinical learning experiences early in their degree program. Students also have opportunities to work with medical students from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), Elmira campus.

Business: A range of programs that incorporate themes such as globalization and the intricacies of modern business operations while teaching students the required communication and apt problem-solving strategies necessary in the business world. Recently paired with members of the Hilfiger family to launch the Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Business School.

Career Development: Recognized for providing Integrated Career Exploration and Preparation, Accessible Programs and Training, and a Career-Centered Staff.
