The Elmira College Scholars Program awards five full-tuition scholarships per year to first-year, full-time students. A committee comprised of faculty and administrators will review the Scholar Applicants and will select a group of finalists to interview. From the finalists, five students will be chosen as Elmira Scholars.

When reviewing applicants for the Elmira College Scholars Program, the committee will review holistically, meaning a thorough and comprehensive review of an applicant’s complete file will occur. The committee will review high school transcripts, academic profiles, letters of recommendation, personal statements, and video essay.

Eligible applicants need to have one of the below to qualify:

  • A 3.9 GPA (no SAT or ACT scores required)
  • A 3.7 GPA as well as 1300 SAT or 28 ACT composite

Current high school students interested in applying should complete the EC Application for Admission as well as the Elmira Scholars Video Essay through the EC Online Portal.

Application Process

In addition to the Application for Admission, eligible students will complete an Elmira College Scholars Video Essay.  In this video submission, applicants are encouraged to explain what the scholarship will mean to them and the attributes they will bring to the Elmira College Community.

All requirements for admission and the Elmira Scholars Program must be received by the Office of Admissions by December 12th at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Selection Process

Finalists will be notified by December 17. As part of Elmira Scholars Day, finalists will interview with the scholarship committee and give an original presentation. In early to mid-March, the five Elmira Scholars will be announced. Winners must confirm their enrollment by May 1.

Scholarship, Benefits, and Requirements

Elmira Scholars will receive a full-tuition scholarship renewable at the level of the entering year for up to four years of continuous enrollment, less any Federal and/or State Grants (e.g. Pell, TAP, other). The Elmira Scholars benefit replaces all other Elmira College Scholarships, Grants, and Awards. Elmira Scholars are required to file a FAFSA and live on campus each year. A minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA must be achieved at the end of each academic year and the student must be considered in good standing at Elmira College to retain the scholarship. Elmira Scholars also receive access to honors seminars and courses.

Those finalists who are not selected as an Elmira Scholar will be eligible for a $25,000 Trustee Scholarship. The Trustee Scholarship replaces all other Elmira College Scholarships, Grants, and Awards.
