Nursing is not only a science — it’s an art. At Elmira, our Nursing degree program students are driven to achieve their goals and are passionate about caring for others. You will complete rigorous academic coursework to enhance critical-thinking and clinical-reasoning skills. And beyond the classroom, you’ll gain clinical experience as early as sophomore year to build hands-on learning and prepare you for real-world problem-solving.
As an Elmira College Nursing student, you’ll learn theories and concepts from humanities to the natural, social, and nursing sciences that will prepare you as a versatile and ethical health care professional. Learn how to use evidence-based findings to improve quality-of-care while gaining the information management and technology skills needed in today’s health care settings. EC will prepare you as a leader and a collaborator who can work with others to improve health care outcomes for individuals and communities, as well as a lifelong learner.

When you earn your bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Elmira, you’ll be eligible to enter the workforce as a registered nurse. Or you may choose to continue to graduate school to become a nurse practitioner, nurse educator, nurse anesthetist, or nurse administrator. Our emphasis on experiential learning means that whichever path you follow, you’ll be ready to pursue it with confidence.
In fact, all nursing students begin clinicals in their sophomore year and then complete a career-related internship at a hospital in the third term of the senior year. Some students also complete an internship at a hospital during the summer between the junior and senior years.
