The Office of Continuing Education and Graduate Studies offers non-credit professional development courses and certificates designed to assist you as a working professional in strengthening your job skills and meeting continuing education requirements. These include prep courses for certain industry-specific certifications. Our office also offers you a chance to take a class or two for personal or professional enrichment without enrolling in a full degree program.

You may take classes at Elmira College without officially applying for an undergraduate or graduate degree. If at a later time, you decide to pursue a degree, these classes may be applied towards a degree program. For graduate coursework, only 12 credits of non-degree courses may be matriculated to a degree program.

Students may audit a course with the consent of the instructor. An auditor is expected to attend classes, complete the assignments, and participate in class discussions, but is not required to take examinations. No credit is given for an audited course. Students interested in auditing a class will need to submit the following:
* Students born after January 1, 1957 only.
This is an 8-hour course required by New York State as the first step in obtaining a security guard registration card from the New York State Department of State. The course provides the student with a general overview of the duties and responsibilities of a security guard.
What you will learn:
The passing of an examination is required for the successful completion of this course.
