PRIDE Symposium

The past week, the Elmira College campus came together to learn more about the LBGTQ community and coming out process during the annual PRIDE Symposium.

The week of events centered on a theme of, “Coming Out Through the Ages,” included panel discussions, a movie screening, and a keynote address by Claudia Stallman.

Stallman’s presentation titled, “Parenting While Queer in Upstate New York,” detailed her efforts as the project director at the Lesbian and Gay Family Building Project at Binghamton University.

Other events, such as the student research and discussion panels, focused on challenging the coming out narrative, transgender rights in the U.S. prison system, and health professionals knowledge of LGBTQ patient needs.

The PRIDE and Women and Gender Studies (WAGS) student organizations hosted the Symposium, with support from the Women and Gender Studies Program.
