Today’s #WhatToDoWednesday spotlight on student clubs and organizations is all about the Elmira College Chapter of Circle K.

Circle K is the collegiate version of Kiwanis, an international nonprofit organization found in over 80 different nations. Elmira College Circle K works with the local community to build the relationship between students from all backgrounds and nonprofit organizations. The Chapter was founded in 1994 by EC Circle K advisor, Alison Mandel, and has since worked on hundreds of projects with countless organizations. Mandel said, “In the past 20+ years that I have been involved with EC Circle K, I have been extremely proud and inspired by the countless hours of service that the members have done in the community. I have seen many students go from shy freshmen to great leaders, not only of the club, but within the NY District.”

Trick or Treat

Just in time for Halloween, Circle K is teaming up with Elmira College’s Dance Marathon to host, “Trick-or-Treat for the Kids”, a Halloween event on campus for kids and families in the area. Families in the community are encouraged to walk through the Elmira College campus on October 31 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. and trick-or-treat for toys and treats at the tables set up by various campus clubs and departments. There is a $5 fee per family, and all proceeds will go towards the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) which provides assistance to mothers and children in developing countries, and the Children’s Miracle Network at Arnot Ogden Medical Center.

“Circle K is more than just a way to complete your community service requirement; it is a family of like-minded young adults that want to really make a difference in the world by living to serve and loving to serve,” said Heather Mustavs ‘19, president of Elmira College Circle K.

Meetings are held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays in the library, room 114. To learn more about Elmira College Circle K, like their Facebook page, Elmira College Circle K, and follow them on Instagram @elmiracirclek and Twitter @EC_Kiwanis.
