Our #WhatToDoWednesday series, spotlighting student clubs and organizations, continues today with the Elmira College Equestrian Club and Team.

If you are interested in riding, competing, or just love horses, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

The equestrian club and team is under the guidance of MaryLou Spencer, owner and riding instructor, of Foxmoor Farm located in Horseheads, New York. The team competes at eight horse shows at various college campuses throughout the academic year.

“All of our student riders are on different levels in their riding careers from beginner to experienced,” said Sydney Stringham '19, member and public relations chair for the Equestrian Club and Team.

“Students involved in our club are not required to compete, but they are encouraged to take riding lessons.”

When the team is not practicing at the barn, they are competing against other colleges such as Cornell University (October 22), the Rochester Institute of Technology (October 29), or Nazareth College (November 19).

Students, friends, and alumni are invited to the shows to cheer on the purple and gold riders, and if interested in competing, club members are required to belong to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).

Ready to saddle up? Join the club every Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in the Gannett-Tripp Library. You can also follow the riders and horses through Facebook and Instagram (@ec_equestrian).
