Dr. Sharma

A research paper by Dr. Amarendra Sharma, associate professor of economics, was recently accepted for publication in a forthcoming volume of the Journal of International and Global Economic Studies.

In this paper, titled “Does Mexican Temporary Employment Program Work? Evidence from a Panel Data of Mexican States,” Dr. Sharma and his co-author, Oscar Cardenas, study the effect of a temporary employment program on various measures of employment, earnings, and unemployment duration using a panel data of Mexican states from 2005-2013. Their research found that a temporary employment program actually increases unemployment. However, it increases employment in the critical and sub-occupation categories. It has no significant effect on either wages or unemployment duration.

Prior to being accepted for publication, Dr. Sharma presented this paper in 2015 as part of his keynote address to the 7th International Seminar of Public Economics held at the Universidad Autonoma de Sinaloa in Mazatlan, Mexico as well as at the Ss. Cyril & Methodius University in Skopje, Macedonia.
